In 2005 the government introduced electrical safety rules into the Building Regulations for England and Wales. This was sectioned as Part P. We are Part P approved though the NICEIC.

What does this mean to me?

By Law any work that you are intending to carry out on your property as a home owner or landlord involving:

• Building control
• New build
• Installation of a new circuits
• Replacement of a fuse box (consumer unit)

…must be notified to your Local Authority building control.

There are two ways this can be achieved..

Either..

1. Tell your local authority building control about the work before it starts...OR..

2. As a government approved Part P scheme registered member, employ Smarts Electrical Services to design, install and certify the installation.

• You will not need to pay building control charges for the inspection and testing of the installations
• We will provide the certificate that confirms the work meets Building Regulations
• Through the NICEIC you have access to a formal complaint procedure and a guarantee of the work carried out
• You will have had safe electrical installation work done, as the work will meet the UK national standard, BS  7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations).

If you choose to carry out the work yourself or employ an Electrician who is not registered on the government approved scheme, and you do not notify Building Control of such work you will be committing a criminal offence. Local Authorities can make home owners or Landlords remove or alter any work that does not meet the building regulations.
